FARMINGTON HILLS – Award-winning morning radio host Michael Patrick Shiels, who
was a producer for Detroit radio legends J.P. McCarthy and Dick
Purtan, will return to the airwaves in May with a weekday news/talk
show from 9 a.m. until noon on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s
WDTW-AM 1310.
“Michigan’s Big Show starring
Michael Patrick Shiels” will cover news, politics, business, entertainment,
sports and lifestyles from a Michigan perspective through interviews with
newsmakers worldwide. The fast-moving show will appear on more than 10 radio
stations statewide as well as FOX 47 WSYM-TV in Lansing.
“Even though I coaxed Mitt
Romney into promising me on the air that he’d make me U.S. ambassador to
Ireland if he becomes president, I’m very happy to be back on the air in
Detroit ,” said Shiels, who honed his skills as a producer for McCarthy and
Purtan. “J.P. McCarthy and Dick Purtan became Radio Hall of Famers because
their listeners recognized they could talk about important issues without being
self-important. Having learned from them, I make sure my show leaves out the
boring parts.”
Shiels, 44, was honored by the
Michigan Association of Broadcasters as Network Personality of the Year in
March, and multiple times, for his personable interviews and non-partisan
approach. He is also a columnist and author who collaborated on titles with
Larry King and Donald Trump, and has hosted live broadcasts from locations such
as the Mackinac Policy Conference; Washington , D.C. ; Jerusalem, and Ireland.
“Michael Patrick Shiels
brings people from both sides of an issue to debate the issues that matter to
Michigan — always in a thoughtful, and often entertaining, way,” said Michigan
Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer.
Added former Republican state
Sen. Jason Allen, who also operates a retail business in Traverse City :
“Michael Patrick’s relevant topics, newsworthy guests, positive energy and
interview skills make his show a must-listen to for all of Michigan.”
